One-Act Festival at New School
Graduate students at the New School for Drama will present a one-act play festival free of charge, Feb. 14-April 26, featuring work by Samuel Becket, Julia Cho, Susan Glaspell, Tony Kushner, Harold Pinter, Theresa Rebeck, Tennessee Williams, and others.
There are many good reasons to attend, not least of which is the chance to support up-and-coming actors. Also, one-acts by well-known authors aren't regularly performed; there is a difference between reading the text and seeing the play. Last, and in keeping with Back Stage's Welcome to New York issue (Jan. 31-Feb. 6), there is the chance to network. Agents, casting directors, and artistic directors regularly attend sh0wcases such as this, and you never know who you may run into.
The plays will run Thursdays-Saturdays at 8 p.m., with Saturday matinees at 3 p.m. Though admission is free, it is best to call for a reservation: 212-279-4200 or visit www.ticketcentral.com. The New School is situated at 151 Bank St., Manhattan. Subways: A/C/E @ 14th St., or 1/2/3 @ 14th St., or 1 @ Christopher St.
