15th Annual African Film Festival to Conclude at BAM

The 15th Annual African Film Festival, a showcase of African themed features, shorts and documentaries, will conclude its run at the Brooklyn Academy of Music Cinématek from May 23-May 26.

Screenings at BAMCinématek will vary from Meokgo and the Stick Fighter, a South African  film about a stick fighter who invokes a clairvoyant spirit with a musical instrument;  to Growing Stronger,  a documentary on two Zimbabwean AIDS victims; to Les Saignantes, a sci-fi/action/horror hybrid about a futuristic country with corrupt, sex-obsessed leaders. Almost all of the filmmakers and performers are of African descent.

The 15th Annual African Film Festival  began April 9  at the Walter Reade Theater and is currently running through May 27 at the French Institute. Each year, the festival features films, panel discussions, and archival footage with an African focus.
