'Cirque du Soleil' Launches Its Own Casting Site
This past winter, Cirque du Soleil added a new casting section to its website, so that performing artists of all disciplines can submit their profiles and apply directly online. The site has been developed in seven languages to act as a "virtual talent scout" around the world.
The theme of the casting website is "Let your talent shine," and it provides information on career possibilities -- as well as simultaneously identifying candidates' skills and interests -- for clowns, dancers, singers, athletes, actors, circus artists, musicians, and more. According to Cirque du Soleil, their casting team boasts over 50 employees, including more than 20 talent scouts who are constantly scouring the globe for new talent. About 60 auditions have been scheduled worldwide this year, in addition to scouting at other sporting and artistic events around the planet.
As Cirque du Soleil's "La Nouba" celebrates its 10th anniversary in residence at Walt Disney World this December, Las Vegas continues to host "O," "Mystere," and The Beatles' "Love," and other upcoming resident shows in Macao, Tokyo, Dubai, and Los Angeles are in the works, the company is always adding to its stable of over 1,000 artists in 50 different countries.
"With a growing number of shows, recruiting artists is becoming a bigger and bigger challenge for us," says Cirque du Soleil casting director Line Giasson. "This innovative new platform will allow us to get in touch with candidates we would not have been able to contact by traditional means."
In the last several months, Back Stage has published a number of casting notices for Cirque du Soleil that directed our readers to use this new website to apply.
