New Actor-Centric '50 to Death' Web-Comedy Launches, Accepting Story Suggestions

Three New York journeymen actor-teacher-comedians -- Norm Golden, Joan Barber, and Jon Freda -- have teamed up with director Jason "JSOK" Sokoloff to create a new webseries, "50 to Death," about the life and times of, well, three AARP-eligible actors trying to stay young, live life to its fullest, and make it big in the Big Apple.

50todeathvideowebseries_prescriptio Like a wistful, comedic cross between Larry David's brilliant "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and Woody Allen's "Stardust Memories" and "Manhattan," "50 to Death" may eventually prove to be a must-watch series for actors and Baby Boomers everywhere.

Time will tell: So far 50toDeath.com doesn't have a ton of video content, with only a short pilot episode and few other clips available. However, the site does sport a snazzy draggable Flash interface and a promise of more webisodes arriving soon. Co-star Freda tells me the web series will likely consist of episodes "in the 4-6 minute range initially, with a new episode coming out every three weeks."

Golden, Barber, and Freda are all members of AEA, SAG, and AFTRA, with peripatetic resumes spanning theatre, film, television, commercials, and interesting day jobs (Golden is an experienced carpenter that has worked as a high-school and college teacher; Barber is a popular vocal coach; and Freda is an improv-loving psychologist that frequently teaches SAG Conservatory classes).

Actor Jon Freda just sent me the following note:

---------------------

We're real proud of what's happened so far. We've gotten several great online reviews, have been included and embedded in several prominent websites, have become a global entity, and in a "stranger than fiction" moment, were rated the number one most watched comedy webseries by the New Zealand Herald. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/entertainment/news/article.cfm?c_id=1501119&objectid=10548434&pnum=0

All in all . . . we're happy, and excited, and full of anticipation as we ready the launch of Season 2, Winter 2009, on February 1. We're kicking off with a two-part adventure tentatively titled "Twisted".

And now . . . we can use your help. We've been nominated for several "Streamy" awards, in the comedy webseries category. Several awards are based on popular vote and it's much easier for us to reach you than our devoted fans in New Zealand. And although we're working feverishly studying the Rosetta Stone Software, we're having a little difficulty with the Kiwi dialect. So we're attaching a link to the Streamy's and hoping you'll take the few minutes it takes to vote for us BEFORE JANUARY 23rd.....thanks

Have a great New Year . . . we look forward to hearing from you!
