Casting Director Turns Writer : "TAG"
What do you get when you cross a futuristic sci-fi thriller, a sci-fi casting director, Final Draft Pro, and a gung-ho one-man production office?
Generally, a really bad wanna-be writer indie script. Or...
Danny Roth, the LA-based casting director who's name sets off any sci-fi head's recognition bell, has recently released casting info associated with his latest project: Tag, a feature film that Roth's production company, Sycophant Films, is set to produce in 2009.
If you're at all filmography-OCD, a quick IMDB Pro check will show you that pensman Roth produced a short version of this script way back in '97, which makes the rebirth of the now 128-pager a bit of a head-to-side "aww" passion project.
Not quite. The script itself is actually anything but "aww" inspiring. It's a wonderfully dire, potentially futuristic story of a group of homeless teenagers who band together to form their own cult-like family... and a bit like any family, this one is [completely] dysfunctional. The fatally virus-stricken "leader", Billy, eventually goes somewhat nuts and decides to try to infest the rest of the world by playing a game of "tag". The East Village in the 70s springs to mind.
Dark, deep, and sure to cause the quite-brownstone-street-living New Yorker to jump at shadowy passerby.
And... still casting.
