Gaby Hoffman: M.I.A No Longer

Gaby_ubuck It looks like Gaby Hoffman may be making a comeback.  For all of you who don't who she is, you will most likely recognize her as the little girl in Sleepless in Seattle .  She was also in Field of Dreams, Uncle Buck, Now and Then and Volcano just to mention a few.  She worked in many more films and was right up there in the Christina Ricci stratosphere (in fact they were friends) and then she seemed to disappear.

But now it looks like (not counting the who-saw-this-movie-anyway,  Severed Ways: The Norse Discovery of America in 2007, she hadn't worked since 2001.

She's only 26 and considering she had worked a giant chunk of her life, seven years is an eternity.

Gaby_fieldofdreams Anyway she was missed, at least by one fan, namely me.  I like her edgy but natural vulnerability on-screen.  She always left me wanting more with her big, expressive eyes and her slight overbite mouth which she would curl,  almost a Hoffman signature as a child, as if to say so what.

So she is back, it seems.  But don't get uber-excited.  She is acting in the new Untitled Todd Solondz Project which is in post production.  Solondz is known as the Director of Happiness (1998) starring John Lovitz.

While it looks like Hoffman will be part of an all-star ensemble including Faye Dunaway, Allison Janney and Ally Sheedy, the film also stars Paris Hilton.  Can you say: That's not hot! What is the world coming to when Paris Hilton is announced over Gaby Hoffman or Allison Janney as the star heading up the ensemble in Todd Solondz Project.Gabyhoffmaninvolcano

Anyway, the good thing is that Hoffman was an interesting actress and though she probably took a well-deserved hiatus, I am glad she is finding her way back.  Some child actors, you wish wouldgo away.  But she seemed like the real thing.   Starring along side Paris Hilton, not sure if that is best kind of come-back, but you've got to start somewhere.  Although I hope Hoffman's comeback doesn't turn into a go-back.  If Paris' history of bombs is any indication…

Well, let's just hope Gaby's talent is enough to overcome any temporary Paris-hype or dribble as it were.

God, I hope this new movie isn't a bomber. I became a little obsessed with Gaby after seeing "Coming Soon", where she is by far the sexiest character. Hope everything goes well.
