A New Time for Film
It was bound to happen, I suppose. YouTube has a video up that is a Choose Your Own Adventure movie. Do you remember those fun choose your own adventure game books when you were little? Well now you can do the same except on YouTube. The video I watched this go around was The Time Machine: "Get In!". The project conceived by Chad Villella, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Rob Polonsky, is sort of an amateurish production.
The sets are shoddy, the acting is not very good. In one of the scenes, an alpine water dispenser that a secretary dispenses water out of (we hear it pour), is knocked over during a chase scene. It falls, except it's empty; nothing is in the big blue tube. Little details like that are poor reminders of the very C-rate production. However this is a very ambitious undertaking and a pretty interesting idea.
The premise is that a fellow pal/office worker gets mixed up with the wrong folks who come after him at work. Again they are poor copies of Men in Black, but OK. The men being chased, flee and one yells, "Jump in the garbage can." At this point you get to choose whether they should go in the can. Well obviously the more interesting choice is if they don't do what the actor is commanding. However, beware of the aforementinoed low budget production. Don't attempt to get too adventurous. If you do choose this option, the guys get beat up and you failed, film over. It actually displays on screen: You Failed. It then takes you back to the first choice which will land them in the time machine. From there the costumes and premises just get more unwatchable. But I still think this is one to check out; although this type of filming is in its infancy, I am sure this is the wave of the future.
Wouldn't be nice if we could jump in a time machine and see for ourselves?
