'Addams Family' Begins NYC Workshop

Addams family

Playbill reports today that the creators of the new Addams Family Broadway musical have begun a two-week workshop in NYC, in preparation for a Jan. 27 private industry presentation.

The cast of the developmental workshop includes Nathan Lane as Gomez and Bebe Neuwirth as Morticia, as well as Kevin Chamberlin as Fester, Zachary James as Lurch, Marylouise Burke as Grandmama, Terrence Mann, Jan Maxwell and more. Playbill notes that, "as is often the case with readings and workshops, this does not necessarily reflect what the final production casting will be." Not that we don't love Nathan Lane, but Bebe Neuwirth is inspired casting for Morticia and probably should be a keeper.

The musical runs Nov. 13, 2009 -- Jan. 10, 2010, at the Ford Center for the Performing Arts in Chicago, prior to a spring 2010 opening on Broadway. The production is reportedly a wholly original work based on The Addams Family comic strip series by Charles Addams -- so don't expect to see a staging of the TV series or movies of the same name.
