Neil Patrick Harris to Host Emmys

Variety reports that Neil Patrick Harris is "cutting a deal" to host the 61st annual Emmy Awards, which will air live on CBS Sept. 20, 2009.

NPH -- who stars as Barney Stinson on the CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother -- hosted the Tony Awards last month to rave reviews (and higher-than-usual ratings). It appears the actor is becoming a centerpiece for the network: The Tonys also aired on CBS, and HIMYM is moving to the 8 p.m. "anchor slot" on Monday nights, beginning the night after the Emmys

Harris also hosted this year's TV Land Awards, as well as the non-televised Writers Guild Awards and last year's Creative Arts Emmy Awards.
