'Macbeth in the Other Room' Makes Strange Bedfellows
Blood, violence, and plenty of sex are the focal points of Macbeth in the Other Room, a re-imagining of Shakespeare’s Macbeth featuring only Macbeth, Lady Macbeth, and Banquo and set entirely in the tragic couple’s bedroom. As bloodshed and violence commences offstage, the story is complicated by an added dimension of sexual intrigue as a love triangle develops between the three characters.
Gregory Casimir as Macbeth delivers an intense performance as the ill-fated Thane, and Dale Church plays Banquo with humor and an adept physicality. Taliesen Rose plays Lady Macbeth with a supreme command of the text and a nicely developed emotional arc -- initially the merciless, bloodthirsty conspirator, she disintegrates into a disheveled, guilt-ridden wreck, bearing no resemblance to the strong and domineering woman she once was.
Macbeth in the Other Room runs through Aug. 8 at the Dionysus Theater’s L’il Peach, 270 West 36th Street, NYC. For tickets, call (646) 621-5171 or visit www.grapevinetickets.com.
