With the announcement of Superior Donuts ending its run at the Music Box, that leaves us wondering what show will fill the hole in the schedule? Probably Enron, the British hit about American financial scandals or Fences, the revival of August Wilson's 1987 play with Denzel Washington. Other announced shows without a home include American Idiot, Come Fly with Me, and Catch Me If You Can. Casting news came out for two other shows--Kelsey Grammer will headline La Cage Aux Folles opposite Olivier winner Douglas Hodge and A Behanding in Spokane by Martin McDonagh will star Christopher Walken, Sam Rockwell, Anthony Mackie, and Zoe Kazan. Behanding has been misidentified as A Beheading in Spokane in both the NY Times and Theatrical Index. An understandable error since behanding is not a word we see every day. Why do I get the feeling Irish playwright McDonagh saw the name Spokane on a map of the US and liked the sound of it with behanding? The storyline of a man searching for his missing hand sounds like a Coen brothers film. Spider-Man is still supposed to begin previews in February at the Hilton, but it may not swing into action until the summer. And contragulations to Jessica Hecht and Santino Fontana who were out of a job when Brighton Beach Memoirs unexpectedly closed and are now both in the revival of A View from the Bridge.
