Write a Script for 'Heroes' Star Dawn Olivieri

Starting today, aspiring screenwriters have a chance to write a short screenplay for actress Dawn Olivieri, the newest cast member of NBC's Heroes. Girl2Watch and Scripped have teamed up for a new contest, seeking scripts in which the actress is the star.

Olivieri describes herself as "a femme fatale kind of girl. I like to kick ass." So write a script that lets her kick some ass, and enter for your chance to win! The contest is open to any genre, any number of characters, and any style (as long as your entry conforms to standard screenplay formatting). Contest ends Oct. 31, 2009.

'Write of Passage'

According to founder John David Ware, the first annual “Write of Passage” competition is now open for entries. Participants will write scripts based on a supplied scripture with the theme “Hearing God” in the same 168-hour period worldwide. Finalists’ pieces get the opportunity to be made into films during the 168 Film Project competition. Signups require a $35 entry fee and close October 18, followed by writing week from October 19-26. Bloodcurdling!

VH1, in association with Lionsgate (“Saw,” “Hostel”), is casting beautiful women. Ten actors will be chosen to compete in the second season of VH1’s “Scream Queens.” One will win a breakout role in a theatrically released Lionsgate horror film. To audition, you must be 21 or older and appear to be between the ages of 21 and 30.

The casting team will be holding open calls across the country, but location is not a factor for applying. Anyone unable to make the casting sessions can submit a home audition tape via mail and may be chosen for a Skype interview with the casting director. Volunteers Wanted for Independent Film Week

Independent Film Week is seeking submissions for volunteers. 

Volunteers will have the opportunity to gain exposure to the independent film scene, make contacts, get a behind-the-scenes peek at the indie world, and network with industry professionals. Also, volunteers completing 60 hours of service will receive a free one-year IFP membership. The membership includes free passes to special screenings, a subscription to Filmmaker Magazine, and more.

Friars Club Call for Entries

Friars Club Comedy Film Festival is seeking film submissions on or before August 7 (the deadline). 

The Friars Club is home to the industry's top comedians and entertainers, from Frank Sinatra to Billy Crystal, and Whoopi Goldberg to Jerry Seinfeld. The upcoming festival provides a platform for the next generation of comedy filmmakers to present their work to a panel of judges. The jurors, comprised of filmmakers and professionals in the fields of cinema, will select the festival's best feature, best documentary, and best short.

It’s Asian Cinema, Y’all!

The Austin Asian American Film Festival, set for Nov. 12–15 in Austin, Texas, is also accepting submissions—short and feature-length narrative films, documentaries, and experimental/multimedia projects. The festival celebrates the best in independent Asian cinema from around the globe. Before Aug. 15, there’s a $20 fee for features and a $15 fee for shorts. After that, the fees go up.
