The Better Sex...The Better Ex...The Saga Continues
So. Hello Hollywood, you're weird. Anyway. If you've been reading my posts you'll know that I recently did this gameshow workshop. Well, I hear back about this from my EX (who roped me into doing this) that they were (and I quote) fascinated by us. Okaaay. Why? Well, they found our "dynamic"-- as a couple who recently filed for divorce and are still co-parenting amicably--fascinating. I guess we're a rare breed--we parents who decide it's a mature and humane idea to actually GET ALONG for the sake of the child. (Note: I did not say stay married.)
You can get along. It's a choice. (My little public-service announcement for those out there divorced with children.) Now, is it easy? Hell no. There are times I want to run him over with my car and there are times I'm sure he'd prefer to pour lighter fluid over me and light a match rather than hear me bitch ONE MORE TIME. BUT. And this is a BIG BUT. We keep the lines of communication open and we still belong to the same church so we are still raising our child within the same spiritual "village" and giving her some consistency in the process.
Yes, he asks me for dating advice (which is weird for me). Yes, I vent to him (which he finds annoying). Do we want to get back together? (They asked us this--was there a possibility of it.) No. We're both done with the marriage. However, we have decided to be friends. Naturally, this took us several months to get there. It took several months of limited conversation and breath holding and patience and the occasional fight. Yet, gradually and carefully, a friendship is forming.
SO...where did we leave off with the gameshow? Well, they want us back, want to pay us for our time, and they want us to do it [the gameshow workshop] in front of some William-Morris people. Interesting... Again, weird to me...but whatever. I'm GAME.
