Something New Every Day
And I'm back. Bleah. It's frigid in my apartment. My fingers are losing all feeling as I type this. I have things I should do - go to the gym, use the studio I am paying good money for and haven't used enough...
But my blood feels like syrup in my veins. This cold is makes me want to head for the covers.
So, this commercial was my very first outdoor shoot. It went rather smoothly, despite the myriad of loud birds squawking nearby and the seemingly unending march of aircraft (including a blimp - no joke) that we had to wait for to pass before we could start/continue recording. Everyone was kind and sweet and very helpful. The camera had to be loaded onto a boat for 3 out of the 4 angles and even that went rather well... from what I could see. Only minor swearing could be heard.
At three o'clock I was told I was wrapped - I'd begun my day at 5:30 so was plenty tired (despite the Cuban iced coffee
someone fed be after lunch) and glad to go back and spend time on the beach. But, I also felt sort of... superfluous, in a way. My scene partner had to stay on an extra day for another shot but I was over and done with in what felt like 8 short hours. I dunno... I kinda was hoping for another day of work - doesn't that sound odd? I did stay on in Florida two extra days for a little vaycay, but I sorta wished I'd been more involved in the shoot itself. It was a strange sensation - being the character with the overwhelming majority of the lines, yet feeling somewhat second-hand...
The director was very cool and even showed me some of the playback from the hand-help "POV" camera. Despite whatever physical criticism I have about myself, I have to say it looked really good. I tried to keep in mind all the stuff I've been learning and realizing in my on-camera class - trying to keep my brow and lips relaxed, move eyes to the side and not straight up or down. Of course, trying not to squint while staring into the bright Florida sky was impossible, so I hope that doesn't become an issue.
Otherwise, this will be a great spot for the ol' reel. *fingers crossed*
