Hired???

Rainbow1 A week or so ago, I was sort of cast in a small independent film.  It really didn’t register with me, because I didn’t allow it to.  I didn’t want to get my hopes up for yet another project that – for whatever reason: lack of funding, organization or planning, etc. – would not come to fruition.

Past experience has obviously jaded me.

Last night I had my first meeting (so to speak) with the people involved – which was actually to determine whether or not they would be using me in the role I auditioned for (thus I say I was “sort of cast”).  I suppose I can see how a director may want to scoop up valuable actors and get them committed quickly and then later hash out who plays what, and yet… that seems weird… I don’t know…

Whatever – I showed up and did as I was asked.  And as of last night, I’m about 99.6% sure that I have the role I auditioned and was called-back for.  And it’s a good one – funny with a lot of room for creativity.  It also requires minimal a time commitment, which I like when dealing with projects that have a distinct possibility of giving me an ulcer.

Oh, and one of the other cast members (the only other one I saw at yesterday’s meeting before I left) said she reads this blog.  Yay!  Thanks for reading!

From what I have seen of the script – which is not much, I’ve only read one or two scenes at the auditions – it looks good.  Solid.  Well-written.  Cute premise (from what I have gleaned).  And at the auditions and last night’s gathering, all involved seem organized and sane and I think I heard mention of past, completed projects which bodes quite well – and through our friend Google, I see that this director/writer has completed a previous film that also looks cute, solid and had decent production values…

Ok, now I am getting a little bit excited!!!  I sort of wish I had known this last night when meeting with him, I may have taken it all a bit more seriously… and yet maybe it was for the best that I wasn't too self-conscious…

Anyway, the communication and emails I’ve received thus far haven’t been very informative, so I probably should still try and remain reserved.   If it all works out – fantastic.  And if not – well, there will be others…

PS – After typing the title of this entry, I immediately got the song of the same title from one of the greatest (and briefest) musicals ever caught in my head.  Lucky it's on YouTube to be remembered for all time.  Brilliant ;)

Hello possible co-star! That was me at the rehearsal the other night. (I am also not 100% convinced of my status with the film) Maybe we will get to work together...
