Fraternal Kidnapping Pre-Producer Session

Ashleyavis_artsy Ah.  What a delightful Fourth of July weekend.  I'm presently sitting outside in my lovely little garden, reveling at the (relatively massive) fire I have going in my grill slash firepit.  The actual fourth was kind of a bummer, due to the fact that Manhattan was rained upon -- but I did end up going up onto the roof of my brownstone and dancing around for a little while.

This week finally picked up considerably audition-wise -- and resultantly, I've become a touch more relaxed and haven't done further other home improvements.  I ended up getting really good feedback on the musical theater audition I had on Monday -- even though I was pretty sure I took a theoretical crap on my monologue.  Didn't get it -- but the director is on the board at Yale, so perhaps if I ever decide to go for my MFA...?

Next up was a dayplayer audition for Popular CW TV show.  That went GREAT.  My audition was at one o'clock Wednesday afternoon, and I got home at two thirty to an email from my manager about a producer session callback the following day.  I was thrilled!  So I cancel my plans for the evening, then un-cancel them due to guilt, go out for two hours, find out my little brother (who's visiting from Florida) has been KIDNAPPED.  I end up getting no sleep that night and dragging my body to Silvercup Studios the next morning, coffee in hand.

Turns out he wasn't kidnapped.  My significant other ended up taking him to dinner at Coffee Shop in Union Square and neither of them picked up their cell phones for a good two hours.  Oh, that was jolly.  I was about to call the police and everything.

So now I'm a touch nervous about the casting office for that show -- I felt like I rocked the initial audition, but didn't "bring it" as much as I could have for the producer session.  I ended up going in, reading through the sides once -- and then receiving feedback and some specific direction from one of the executives.  While I took it, I didn't take it as MUCH as I know I should have.  And while the CD smiled and thanked me for coming, I knew I didn't book it.  Damn it.

Regardless.  I'm trying not to dwell on that one... I have another big audition tomorrow morning for a new Fringe play, which is SO WELL WRITTEN that I nearly dropped a few Starbucks-espresso-laden tears post my first readthrough.

The only thing is -- I'm auditioning for two different characters.  Who are both British.  With different dialects.  This should be interesting.

Wish me luck.  I'll be reciting my How Now Brown Cows throughout most of the evening, likely to the great distress of my neighbors.

Now to tend to my fire before it eats my maple tree.

Good news about all the auditions (I'm auditioning for a Fringe show this week too), and glad your brother was ok.
