I will Affirm You

Redheadedman  CurtainUp called the Redheaded Man "singular," "substantive" "messy" and "affirming" in our latest rave. A " must see for those seeking an antidote to same old theatre" despite all the "puking gross-outs."

A wee bit self indulgent to post my glowing reviews. But this is my blog, and these are my first reviews ever thanks to the  ingenius infrastructure of the Fringe  and I'm freakin happy about it okay?!

Another affirming moment happened when i passed out my play's postcards at the Christopher-Sheridan stop on Saturday.  Well, one rather unaffirming moment happened first, when a possibly-homeless man offered me a whole cake through which he had clearly rummaged with his bare hands. I said no thanks, but he persisted I was too skinny and that i look "terrible." I crossed the street to escape the cake, whereupon a pungent smelling self-proclaimed "freight train hopper" clearly hopped on heroin told me I was so sexy that he wanted to rub my feet.

Take that, cake guy!!!

Now for the affirming, non-sketchy moment.

When you're passing out postcards in New York, you really only have one millisecond before people are conscious enough to decide that you're annoying.

In my millisecond i did some experimenting. I would say "come see some funny, intelligent, cheap theatre!!" nothing. "Do you like to think and laugh, all at once?!" nada. "Support your broke local artists!" absolutely nothing. " "Backstage Critics Pick!" zilch.

i only got one reaction aside from a few "Fine i'll take one"s. That was when I quoted the Nytheatre.com review and said "one of the finer shows in the Fringe Festival!"

And here's the moment folks. the moment that all playwrights and actors --who have worked so so so so hard and invested their time and their money and their sleep and their livers and their dignity--- --  melt to hear.

A woman I'd never seen before, but who'd seen me, turned back to me and said "Damn f*ckin straight."

Yay for good reviews!!

And the guy telling you that he thought you looked terrible...? Did you ask him if he wanted to be the pot, or the kettle?? ;-)
