Boo! Ghost From an Unscripted Past...

Violet1It's really weird, but over the past week and a half, people from my past have been appearing out of the woodwork.  Old friends I haven't spoken to in years, emails from an ex, former coaches, and even a blogger stalker whom I'll refer to only as Tatum (for the benefit of you football fans out there).  What an ass.

Despite the fact that we've fallen out of touch for one reason or another and really have little reason to become part of each other's lives again now, it's nice to say hello and just know that they're alive and well.  Though sometimes an overzealous insistence of how wonderfully happy someone is usually indicates that they might not be telling the truth or the whole truth, which doesn't matter to me one way or the other.  I guess in a way the synchronicity is sort of interesting and reminds me that all of us are just trying to survive, enjoy time with the people we love, and be happy.  We may measure survival, love, and happiness by different criteria, but everyone's basically shooting for the same thing.

It also has become crystal clear to me that while some people have changed for the better, others have not changed at all.  Even after so many years.  It's both startling and sort of sad.  I think in the past I've been far to quick to give people the benefit of the doubt, which I'll still do out of habit sometimes.  But I've also come to learn that life is too short and while people can be so painfully disappointing, the truth is nobody's perfect.  And it's a lot better to just accept people as they are and not expect too much.

I do however have to say that reconnecting with former coaches has been absolutely awesome.  I'm sure most of us can think back to a coach or a teacher  who had a profound impact on us.  I've been blessed in that a select few of my acting coaches are some of the best teachers I've ever met in every sense of the word.  If there is someone whom you've studied with or someone you look up to, it's great to nurture that sort of mentor relationship with them.  And if you're lucky, you'll have an invaluable friendship to help guide you in acting, which inevitably also translates into life.

On another note...as I was stuffing my face with turkey bacon and coffee on this gorgeous Sunday, I saw Miss Nicole Butler's Gain commercial, which she's so great in!  Simple.  Funny.  Perfect.  Almost makes me want to go do my laundry.
