Taking Yourself Too Seriously? Tie On... A Pair Of Rollerskates!

I did something I have not done since I was about a foot shorter than I am now. Rollerskated.

 Tonight. With a group of other adult men and women. And...we dressed for the occasion. Rollerskating GLAM. Circa 1970's/1980's. And, I have to admit, rollerskating was much easier when I was a teenie bopper at about 5'3 rather than an adult woman towering over nearly everyone in the room at 5'9 + wheel height. I was nearly six feet tall in those damn things and occasionally resembled a giraffe on ice. But, I had hella FUN. That's what this post is about. 

Don't take yourself (or your life) too seriously. I forget that sometimes. For starters...it's damn hard to take yourself seriously on rollerskates. Right now I want to do things that I don't do all the time. I had this conversation with someone tonight. It's so refreshing to break out of the routine...hang with new peeps...strap on a.....pair of rollerskates. (What did you think I was gonna say?) 

Internal Monologue (when I felt myself internalizing or brooding or thinking too much tonight): "Really...you're gonna take yourself seriously??? Because, you're on ROLLERSKATES! And...you've just wiped out in front of about 50 people. That's hot." 

I haven't laughed that much or that loud in a long time. And I had one (only one) fall/WIPE-OUT that was pretty damned impressive. Granted, I'm (usually) coordinated...so once I got used to the slip-and-slide under my feet, I rolled my butt around with the rest of them. Rollerskating is GREAT butt & leg work! Groovy, baby!

I am breaking out of my shell. Well, it helps that I have a girlfriend who does crazy shit for her birthday every year. Last year was trapeze. This year...rollerskating. This should be interesting when we're 80. Shit. I should say when she's 80. 'Cause I'll still be 77. Ha! I vote for nudist shuffleboard. 

Well. Today--this week--has been a lesson in FUN. I'm getting excited about my photo shoot next week, too. Did laundry today to prep for that so I'd have everything that I'd want to use fresh & clean. Paid all the bills...sure...there's still stuff to be done. However...there's gotta be some fun. Because there's always that stuff to do. But...you can't always do the fun stuff...so sometimes you gotta jump on that train when it rides past in order to enjoy your life. 

And laugh at yourself along the way! Especially, when you wipe-out in front of a bunch of people you know and a bunch of people you don't...body parts flailing every which way. There's always time to be staid, stoic, and analytical. Not this week. This week...I just played...and worked...and played!

Sometimes...okay...as often as possible...don't act your age. That's my new motto. Old enough to know better, young enough to squeeze my tushie into a denim jumpsuit!
