2009 Networking Resolution : Proving Ever-Fruitful
So my morning began with my coffee pot exploding. Not exploding... as in, Starbucks has developed a massive conspiracy to kill us all with their overpriced Cappuccino machines... but my idiocy in allowing the cord of the "I-had-it-in-my-college-dorm" $14 coffee machine to lay dangerously close to my gas stovetop. And cooking eggs on said gas stovetop at preceiely the same time as I was brewing a massive 8 gallon pot of French Roast.
It was the start of a very eventful Thursday.
Ever since a few personal life alterations (i.e. relationship termination), I've been bouncing back to my old 2006 self a bit more. Going out, being with friends, taking in 2009 with a glass of wine and a... dance on a table, if you will. Literally. Any person who has not done the salsa on a restaurant tabletop at 2 p.m. in the afternoon should go to the meatpacking district for Saturday brunch. Epic.
Another potentially dance-on-inappropriate-object event occurred this week. I had dinner with a lovely director I've known since Sundance '07, who's been talking about shooting a series of short films in New York post this year's festival (which he has another film in).
And after a hearty meal of burritos and a tub of startlingly kiwi-green guacamole, it looks like I might just get the opportunity to work with him on one of them.
Don't want to say too much to jinx it -- but man,
networking (with the proper training / craft / foundation of pursuit
behind you) works wonders. If I didn't have a 2009 resolution before,
I certainly have one now.
Time to cook chocolate! Ashley Avis
