Good Morning America

Good Morning!  Good Very Early in the Freakin’ Morning, America!

On Tuesday the Spring Awakening crew headed to ABC  to encourage people around the nation to donate their lightly used coats to the homeless or other less fortunate who can’t afford coats.  We were all happy and excited to support such a charitable cause, but too be honest, my time on Good Morning America is a bit of a blurry memory.

Our call time for the show was 7:45 am.  The normal person might not think 7:45 am is so bad.  Some people even start work or school at 8am.  But 7:45am in Broadway people time is probably equivilant to like 3:45am in regular people time.  Not to mention, the night before we had done a show untill 10:30pm and then a very fun Christmas concert at Joe’s Pub that lasted 'till around 2am.  And after that we couldn’t just go to sleep!  Everyone wanted to eat and drink and celebrate!

The Smart Sensible On-top-of-Life Emily would have said, "Don’t go out, go to sleep immediately…you are barely going to have any sleep as it is!"

But the Buhbuhbuh Bbbad Emily couldn’t help but notice a new sexy guy hanging around the Spring Awakening  crew….it was already hard to resist the temptation of not sleeping and spending more time with my Spring Awakening buddies…and now the new guy was making staying out later even more tempting….hmmmm…..what to do?  For me, resisting the chance to talk to a cute boy is almost as hard as resisting cherry sour patch kids.  Almost.  I mean, cherry sour patch kids our pretty much my favorite thing ever.  Anyways,....i guess I decided to be Buh,buh, buh Bad Emily.

When I dragged my ass out of bed Tuesday morning, my body was not happy. I had gotten literally one hour of sleep and my brain was barely functioning as I made my way to Midtown.  When I got there, I could see that I was not alone in my post Joe’s Pub head fog.  Some were still wearing the same clothes from Joe’s Pub.  Some had forgotten to bring a coat to donate (the whole reason we were there.)  One Super Swing in particular was freaking out about being on national television and asked me thirty times if they looked better with their glasses on or off.  “It doesn’t matter Morgan! No one cares if you wear your glasses or not!”  I finally screamed.  Whoa.  Little sleep makes  Buh,buh, buh…Bad Emily cranky!

Luckily, GMA had plenty of coffee in the green room, so I sipped and shook my head around trying to get some color into my face.  I didn’t want to be on national television looking all tired and zombie-like.

I guess the performers in us all took over when we finally stepped in front of the camera and into the little fish-bowl like room where Sam Champion would be interviewing us because everyone seemed really smiley, but then our tired loopiness showed through when we all seemed confused and looked around sleepily when they started playing Spring Awakening music.  "That's your music!"  Sam reminded us.

Super Swing Morgan kept asking me which way to look for Sam Champion and Ryan Seacrest, who happened to be on set that morning.  (Morgan had decided on glasses off.)

In the end, it was pretty cool to be a part of the coat drive and we all made it through and hopefully encouraged people around the nation to donate their old coats!  Only one person missed when we threw our coats into the coat bin, and my mom even texted me afterwards to say she was proud of me!  Yay!

Here’s a little clip I found.  I don’t know why I was so worried about looking awake.  Sam Champion’s microphone is in front of my face the entire time anyways!  Enjoy!!
