Opening Night
I am literally typing this during the top of act 2 on our official opening night. The scenes are long and we all find ways to pass the time when we are not on stage. My laptop is my distraction. Our "dark mystery" seems to have taken a turn towards comedy tonight - the audience is laughing much, much more than any of us anticipated. Can't quite tell if that is a good thing, though I feel pretty sure we have a solid show.
For the last couple nights - invited dress then preview - notes have been given at the local tavern. A nice quaint way to bring all tech crew and cast together. And the crew... goodness. When I saw them all gathered I thought of that old saying about mice: where there's 1 there's 100. I hadn't realized how many people were a part of getting this thing off the ground. More of them than there are of us, naturally.
Everything has been fairly smooth - even despite having a "guest" body at the top of each night. Since there is a dead guy in a chair for the first 30 minutes of the show, the Artistic Director of the theatre thought to generate interest (and revenue) by asking theatre-goers who might be interested to write a letter stating why they'd like a chance to be on stage as this show's dead body. Which is a great idea (10 different dead guys = 10 different sets of friends and family), though... getting a non-actor to sit still for 30 minutes and with people touching him and talking nearby... now that's a risk.
But it's paying off (literally).
