Technical Difficulties
I'm in the dressing room right now on our first full day of tech. I brought my camera for some real-time photos - us in our costumes, the stage slowly but surely coming into being, etc - but my goddamned batteries are dying. Every time I push the button they go kaput. So... sorry. Maybe after lunch/dinner (we're working 10 out of 12 hours today) I can get some new batteries.
I saw the final performance of the last show on Sunday - and the set was amazing. Spectacular. Intricate. And then, about 22 hours later, I peeked at the stage and our new set was up and almost complete. These techies are amazing. Wonderful. Hardworking.
I love doing real theatre. I feel like such a rube because I feel like I'm always talking about how low-end the non/semi-pro New York scene is. But it's true - sad but true. We just had a gun safety call for the starter pistol we're using and I was just so impressed. I mean, I know this is standard - the way it is supposed to be - but it just generally never is.
Maybe I should stop talking about it.
One actor just asked our equally-talented and hardworking costumer if she'd ever worked with anyone who purposefully sabotaged a costume because he/she didn't like it. Apparently this is a common occurrence.
Right now we're all sitting around waiting for the first scene - a 30 minute scene - to end before we go on. And before they even start there are about 3 sound cues to be worked in. So... it will be along day. 10 hours of being very, very patient. I'm glad I brought my laptop.
And, so are we!
