The descent into madness continues
The past few weeks have been consumed with acting work, memorization and research for three projects, so I've been doing what I usually do for character development. The difference this time is that Im doing three characters at the same time.
Usually step one for character creation involves putting up a character wall in my house. This is an array of images and words about the character- images that are relevant to who they are or what is
important to them and words that are said about or by the character or that can describe them. These can be detailed and big, and nothing goes up unless it is hugely evocative at first glance. These walls help me so much because if I do them right I can just look at it and immediately connect with who this character is. For instance, when I was doing Lady M, I had very scary pics of dead babies lining my wall. Creepy stuff, but the fastest and most effective way of getting me into the mindspace.
But now, I have three FULL walls of pics and words for three different characters. Outside of being nervous that they will start to bleed into each other-- as it is, ill be working on one, and something on a different wall will catch my eye-- I look like a total Nut Job. Today they are installing a ceiling fan in my apartment, and I left the house when they started working just because I was so embarrassed.
The ways we suffer for our art...
Oh! What a great idea! Thanks for sharing. :)
