Tony Predix, Part One

OK. The Tonys are Sunday night and, though I do care if Tony Soprano gets whacked by Phil Leotardo, I'll still be watching Broadway's biggest night.

Here are my predictions:

Musical: Spring Awakening.

Play: The Coast of Utopia.

Revival (Play): Journey's End.

Revival (Musical): Company.

Actor (Play): Frank Langella, Frost/Nixon.

Actress (Play): Eve Best, A Moon for the Misbegotten. There are actually theatrical pundits who think Angela Lansbury will win for Deuce. I love Lansbury, but that was not award-winning work. The only reason she would get votes is for sentiment and to have her collect five Tonys and match Julie Harris' record. But I really don't think Tony voters cast their ballots with record breaking or matching in mind.

Actor (Musical): Raul Esparza, Company

Actress (Musical): Christine Ebersole, Grey Gardens.

Featured Actor (Play): Billy Crudup, Coast of Utopia.

Featured Actress (Play): Martha Plimpton, Coast of Utopia.

Featured Actor (Musical): John Gallagher, Jr., Spring Awakening.

Featured Actress (Musical): Mary Louise Wilson, Grey Gardens.

Director (Play): Jack O'Brien, Coast of Utopia.

Director (Musical): Michael Mayer, Spring Awakening.

More tomorrow
