Spoken Funk, A Night of Comedy and Poetry
Actors and comedians looking for a new venue to perform should check out Spoken Funk, a night of comedy and poetry, every Thursday night at The Comedy Union in Los Angeles.
The show is hosted by Spoken Funk co-founder, Tony award-winning poet and actor Poetri and has had such talent as actor Malcolm Jamal Warner (The Cosby Show) and comedian Rodney Perry grace the stage.
Spoken Funk co-founder Juren Smith says the open mike is a great venue for actors and comedians to try-out new material. “[Actors] get a chance to work out their material if their dealing with a monologue [or] if they want to test out material in front of an audience and hone their skills,” she says. “You’re actually performing in front of the general audience who may not necessarily be in the entertainment industry so you can get honest feedback from them.”
Doors open at 8 p.m. and the show begins at 9 p.m. $12 cover at the door. The Comedy Union, 5040 W. Pico Blvd., Los Angeles, CA. For upcoming events, visit www.spokenfunk.com.
