'The Commitment' Opens Tonight

Writer/director/producer Patrica Medlin's new play The Commitment: New Beginnings opens tonight at Where Eagles Dare in New York City, featuring three actors who were cast after responding to a casting notice in Back Stage.

From the synopsis:

Robert Griffin, the prior owner of Griffin's restaurant, tried for many years to make a success out of the place; at first it was a diner, then it was turned into a supper club, and it never made it. Some said that it was because of Robert's lack of experience, and others said that the place was just bad luck.

Gary Green and his wife Sadie (Robert's cousin) are the couple that recently bought Griffins. They plan to reopen the restaurant and turn the place around, but they face one main obstacle -- Robert's ex-wife Sheila holds the deed...

Ylva Fink  and Gina Labozetta play Jackie and Cathy, respectively, two sisters who have children who were born with birth defects; Uhura Hawkins plays Sadie Green. Medlin says that all three actresses were cast after responding to a casting notice she published in Back Stage in March.

The Commitment: New Beginnings performs June 13 & 14 and June 20 & 21 at 8 p.m., and June 15 & 22 at 3 p.m. at Where Eagles Dare, 347 W. 36th St. (btwn. Eighth & Ninth aves.), 13th fl., NYC. Tickets are $20.
