'Phantom' Celebrates 21st Birthday Tonight

Phantom of the opera_broadway

The Broadway production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera celebrates its 21st anniversary today, Jan. 26, at the Majestic Theatre. Or, as Playbill notes, "The Phantom is old enough to legally drink alcohol in the state of New York."

The show will be playing its 8,732nd performance tonight, and is the first Broadway production to run 21 years. Phantom already became the longest-running show in Broadway history when it surpassed the performance count of Lloyd Webber's Cats in 2006.
