Broadway Rally Gets Whacked

Carnage Like that tease known as spring, the fledgling Broadway box office rally pulled away last week, as The Collective finished about $270,000 behind last week's grosses, and 22 out of 29 shows had lower totals than the previous week's.

God of Carnage and West Side Story posted six-figure gains, while reasons to be pretty, Joe Turner's Come and Gone, and Rock of Ages (all still in previews) did better as well.

The stalwarts--Billy Elliot, Chicago, Jersey Boys, Mamma Mia!, The Lion King, The Phantom of the Opera, and Wicked--all were off the pace. And, compared to the same week last year, the Main Stem was behind more than $4 million.

For the season, however, it remains ahead of last year's pace
