Casting News -- June 15, 2009

Taylor kitsch

Taylor Kitsch and Lynn Collins will star in John Carter of Mars, a film adaptation of the Edgar Rice Burroughs book series. The story is about a civil war veteran who finds himself mysteriously transported to Mars, where his involvement with warring races of the dying planet force him to rediscover his humanity. Kitsch (Friday Night Lights) plays the title character; Collins plays the heir to Mars' Helium kingdom.

Noah Wyle is reportedly in talks to star in Steven Spielberg's untitled alien invasion pilot for TNT. Wyle would play the leader of a ragtag group of citizens who try to bring down their alien aggressors six months after evil extra-terrestrials decimate mankind.

Eric Santagata and Pilar Millhollen have been announced to star in the Engeman Theater production of Crazy for You. Santagata will star as Bobby Child, opposite Millhollen as Polly Baker. (Millhollen was also featured in a recent Back Stage "Who Got the Part?" column for her role in this upcoming musical.) Principal cast members also include Brian Gonzales as Bela Zangler, Erin Mosher as Irene, and Michael Sample as Lank. The production runs June 25-Aug. 16.

Casting has been announced for the Theatre Under the Stars production of 42nd Street. Loretta Swit will play Dorothy Brock, with Austin Miller as Billy Lawlor, Shannon M. O'Bryan as Peggy Sawyer, and Steve Blanchard as Julian Marsh. The company also includes Tony Lawson as Pat Denning, Denise Nolin as Maggie Jones, James Young as Bert Barry, David Titus as Abner Dillon, and Sarah Strimel as Anytime Annie. The musical runs July 9-14 at the Miller Outdoor Theatre in Houston, TX.

Skyler Samuels has joined the cast of Furry Vengeance, a family comedy about a sarcastic city kid whose father (Brendan Fraser) moves the family to rural Oregon. Samuels will play Amber, the kid's romantic interest.
