Producer Looking for a Few Good Men... and Women

Larry meis Larry Meistrich, producer of the Oscar-winning film Sling Blade, is now seeking to recruit current and retired military personnel and family members into the entertainment industry. With no prior experience needed, Meistrich is looking for potential in the form of move and TV pitches, as well as writers, directors, producers, actors, and crew members.

As Meistrich explained to The Hollywood Reporter: "The skills acquired during a military career are very complementary to production. The way a set runs is similar to a chain of command, but we’re obviously not risking our lives." Meistrich plans to produce and finance at least one project per year. Pitches do not have to be exclusively on the theme of war; diverse topics are encouraged.

Meistrich and his partners from NEHST Studios (a film production, financing and distribution company created by Meistrich), have created GI pictures and its Web site, www.gipictures.com, where interested individuals with military backgrounds can pitch their ideas. Meistrich’s father was a captain in the U.S. Army and a veteran of the Vietnam War and so one of the reasons he created GI Pictures was, "to support the troops with more than just a yellow ribbon."

For those who have no military background NEHST Studios has an alternative pitch site where civilians can also pitch their ideas,www.pitchnehst.com.
