Tim Burton Gets MoMA Exhibit this November
Tim Burton usually lends his stunningly morbid visual flair to films, but starting November 22, he will lend it to the MoMA.
The Museum of Modern Art announced that it will open an exhibition of more than 700 drawings, paintings, costumes, and artifacts from the director/producer/Johnny-Depp-admirer’s unique career on November 22nd. The exhibit will run through April 26th, 2010.
Pieces on display will range from his early works and nonprofessional projects, to his well-known films -- Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice, Sleepy Hollow, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Mars Attacks (an early pastel drawing of an Martian, pictured right, will be shown), among others. Some of his films will also be screened.
This is exciting news. If people were polled, “which director’s artwork, designs, and costumes would you want to see as a museum exhibit,” Burton would certainly be the first choice of many.
Personally, I’m crossing my fingers that the funky, mechanical breakfast-making contraption from Pee Wee Herman’s Big Adventure will make an appearance.
