Acting School Opens Doors for Inner-City Youth

Stella-Adler The Stella Adler Studio of Acting Outreach Division has created a free summer intensive for 22 underprivileged teenagers in the urban areas of New York City. The studio will be seeking interested teens from now until May 20.

The Stella Adler Studio has been active for 61 years and has trained A-listers such as Robert DeNiro and Marlon Brando, as well as Harvey Keitel, Warren Beatty, and Elaine Stritch.

“We believe that the advantages of artist training are not for the privileged few, but provide essential cultural and educational experiences that should be available to all New Yorkers regardless of their income,” said the studio’s director Tom Oppenheim.

The program is set to begin on June 6th and will culminate in the performance of a Shakespeare play on August 6. Students who receive free or reduced lunch at school will be given priority.

To schedule an interview, teens should call the Stella Adler Studio at (212) 689-0087 and request the Outreach Division. For more information, visit www.stellaadler.com/outreach.
