Party Downer
Happy birthday, Lizzy Caplan! Your show has been canceled!
Not that we can really be surprised, but it's a major bummer that Starz isn't bringing back "Party Down" for a third season. Easily one of the funniest shows on TV, it had a special place in our hearts because of it's unflinching portrayal of the lives of actors. Focusing on a group of caterers, many of whom dream of stardom as actors or writers, I know many people who related all too well to this show. But its appeal wasn't limited to those in the industry--as star Adam Scott said in our April interview, "I think humiliation is universal."
This comes on the heels of last week's awesome episode, which featured the wedding of Season One regular Constance Carmell, played by the sublime Jane Lynch. You can still catch it here, and mourn the loss of this brilliant show.

This was easily one of the the funniest sitcoms on TV in recent years, maybe one of the best of all time. Such a shame that Starz is letting it go. I really hope another network is smart enough to pick it up. On the right channel, this show could fly, with or without the charms of Adam Scott. (FX, listen up!!!!)
Between his directing/producing work on "Party Down" and the always awesome "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," I'm starting to think Fred Savage is the greatest director/producer working in TV sitcoms in the U.S. today. (I say "U.S.," 'cause the geniuses behind the British "Peep Show" are the worldwide winners.)
