Replacements Cast for Broadway's 'Rock of Ages'

Joey taranto Joey Taranto made his Broadway debut in Broadway's Rock of Ages, and now he will become its star. Playbill.com reports that Taranto will succeed Tony Award nominee Constantine Maroulis in the jukebox musical on Sept. 10. Maroulis' last performance will be Sept. 9, before he will go on a national tour with Rock of Ages beginning on Sept. 21 in Chicago.

Playbill has also reported that Mitchell Jarvis will play his final performance as Lonny on Sept. 5; Jarvis, however, will continue with the musical. Starting Sept. 13, he will take over the role of Stacee Jaxx from James Carpinello, who will play his final performance on a date to be determined. The role of Lonny will be played by Jay Klaitz (Lend Me a Tenor, High Fidelity) beginning Sept. 6.

The musical comedy Rock of Ages borrows rock hits of the 1980s to tell the story of showbiz lovers in L.A. The score includes "Every Rose Has Its Thorn," "I Wanna Know What Love Is," "Here I Go Again," "Don't Stop Believin'," and others.

The mixture of new faces and old ones in new roles should be an interesting shakeup for Rock of Ages. With new talent coming in and the already stong cast moving around to different roles, this show should get a fresh, revamped start on Broadway.

But will Taranto be able to fill the big shoes of Maroulis? And what kind of an effect will Klaitz have on the cast?
