Cable, Film Bright Spots for NBC U
Though NBC Universal’s total third-quarter profit amounted to 15 percent less than 2009, the entertainment conglomerate showed strength in its cable and film divisions. The NBC Uni cable networks helped boost the company’s profit by 20 percent, and revenue by 80 percent. Hit movie “Despicable Me,” in addition to the theme parks owned by the company, also proved to be strong sources of revenue, with both film and amusement parks doubling their profit from last year. “Given that the economy is still far from robust, these are excellent results,” said NBC Uni President and CEO Jeff Zucker in a memo to staff. Zucker will leave the company once their merger with Comcast is completed.
