'Monsters' Love
Getting ready to release our annual "Great Performances" issue so over the next few days I'll be posting interviews with a lot of awesome actors you'll see this awards season. In the meantime, wanted to call some attention to the recent list of British Independent Film Award winners, particularly a little movie called "Monsters" that caused an upset last weekend when its director, Gareth Edwards, won over such luminaries as Mike Leigh and Tom Hooper.
Made for a rumored $15,000, the film shows true independent spirit. Dialogue was improvised by the two lead actors, Scoot McNairy and Whitney Able, who also happen to be married in real life. I had the opportunity to interview them for the film's October release, and you can read all about them and the making of the film here.
Really hoped to see the actors score nods from this year's Spirit Awards, but it wasn't meant to be I guess. Regardless, Edwards' win at the BIFA's and the film's wins for production and technical achievement are a nice boost.
