Vera Farmiga Film 'Higher Ground' Selected for Sundance Competition

Vera farmiga_red top Actress Vera Farmiga is returning to the Sundance Film Festival this year with her new film Higher Ground, in which she stars as a woman coping with a crisis of faith. Farmiga's career got a boost when she won an acting prize at Sundance seven years ago (for her performance in Down to the Bone), but Higher Ground is notable because it also marks the actress' debut as a director. The film is one of 16 entries in the U.S. dramatic competition at this year's festival, which runs Jan. 20-30, 2011 in Park City, Utah.

Earlier this year, Farmiga posted a casting notice in Back Stage seeking an actress to play "full-figured, sensual, confident" woman who is "comfortable with her body, to play a sexy and womanly cat-caller" in the film.  The featured role included a scene with Farmiga, which was shot in June in upstate NY.

Read the original casting notice below for more details:

Higher Ground Entertainment is casting Higher Ground, an independent feature-length film directed by and starring Academy Award nominee Vera Farmiga (acting credits include The Departed, Orphan, and Up in the Air). Shoots June 23 in the Kingston, NY/Ulster County area.

Seeking—Actress: 18-39, full-figured, sensual, confident, comfortable with her body, to play a sexy and womanly cat-caller, no nudity. Did any of our Back Stage readers audition for the role? Leave your comments to let us know if we'll be seeing you on the big screen at Sundance!
