New ILoveNYTheater iPhone App Brings Broadway Tickets to Your Fingertips
Smartphone apps continue to make life in the big city a little less of a hassle. We can Hop Stop our way from point A to B and find concerts, restaurants, dog parks, and bike lanes with the tap of a finger. And now The Broadway League brings us what is perhaps the ultimate app for New York theater lovers: the ILoveNYTheater Broadway ticket vendor app.
The Broadway League, which is the national trade association for the Broadway industry, has developed its app for patrons to buy tickets to currently running and upcoming Broadway shows in real time, directly from the theater's box office, without any online ticket broker markups; processing fees still apply. This means no more standing in line at the box office, and no more Ticketmaster fees for not wanting to make the trek to Times Square.
But wait, there’s more: The app also includes theater locations, show times, a performance calendar, hotel and restaurant recommendations in the theater district, and other features.
The ILoveNYTheater app is not the first in the league of Broadway ticketing apps, though. The beloved TKTS discount ticket booth released its own official TKTS app last year, which displays the discount tickets that are being offered at TKTS' three NYC locations that day. (Like The Broadway League's new app, it is available for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, as well as Android.)
The Zumobi Network’s iBroadway app provides access to details on performances times, locations, ticket prices, and discounts, boasts exclusive video content, and serves as a venue for reviews and commentary. Both BroadwayWorld.com and TheaterMania.com have developed branded apps for all kinds of Broadway-themed information, and many theaters and even individual productions are beginning to release their own apps.
Ken Davenport, a Broadway producer who founded Davenport Theatrical Enterprises and developed "At the Booth," an unofficial TKTS-related app, told Mobile Commerce Daily last year, "I want theater to be an impulse decision. I want it to be just like going to a movie. Now, finding out information about the best deals on Broadway can be as easy as finding out what movies are playing or what restaurants are nearby."
With the continual development of these theater-related apps and introduction of the new ILoveNYTheater app, that impulse is easier than ever to act upon. All you have to do is tap your finger.
The ILoveNYTheater app is available for free for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, and can be downloaded on iTunes or at ILoveNYTheater.com.
