New Shows Shooting in New York Get Casting Directors
More news this week on new network shows and the people who cast them. This week, the news is all about the concrete jungle where dreams are made: Duluth, Minnesota! I mean New York City.
At least four fall/midseason shows will be cast out of New York. "Smash," NBC's TV show about the making of a Broadway show, will be cast by Broadway casting director extraordinaire Bernie Telsey, who also cast the pilot.
"But wait," you're probably saying. Neither of those shows has anything to do with the NYPD. To which I say, you're right, and that is weird, but there are two other new shows that have everything to do with the NYPD.
One is CBS drama "The 2-2," formerly "Rookies," which will be cast by Julie Tucker and Ross Meyerson. The show is exec produced by Robert De Niro, the pilot was directed by James Mangold, and it stars Adam Goldberg and Leelee Sobieski, among others. Here's hoping it will live up to that considerable pedigree.
The other NYPD show is "Unforgettable," formerly "The Rememberer" (no, really, "The Rememberer"), about an NYPD detective who uses her photographic memory to win thousands of dollars on "Classic Concentration," and also to solve crimes. It will be cast by Suzanne Ryan, formerly of Lynn Kressel's "Law & Order" empire.
One more notable item this week: Louis Leterrier's new heist thriller "Now You See Me" is being cast by Carmen Cuba.
