In this issue:

For our first "Great Performances" issue, noted actors, directors, writers, and other artists were asked to write about the best performances they've seen. Jason Alexander, Charles Grodin, Neil LaBute, Howard Fine, Jackie Earle Haley, Austin Pendleton, Giancarlo Esposito, Nathan Fillion, Terry Schreiber, and others offer their thoughts on memorable performances by actors including Montgomery Clift, James Earl Jones, John Cazale, Lee Marvin, Christine Ebersole, Robert Duvall, Richard Harris, Gena Rowlands, Uta Hagen, Mark Rylance, and more.

In an editorial titled "Serve No Review Before It's Time," Back Stage theater critic and reviews editor Erik Haagensen explains the importance of preview performances, and why publications should still respect the "gentlemen's agreement" between critics and theater producers that prevents reviews from being published before opening night.

Back Stage reviews The Royal Shakespeare Company's productions of King Lear and Romeo and Juliet, part of the Lincoln Center Festival 2011.

And more News, Reviews, and Advice Columns -- Plus production listings and hundreds of new casting and job notices in NY, CA, and nationwide!
