Free Musical Series in Park; B'way Box Office Down

Franco • The IFC Center and New York City's Department of Parks and Recreation will have three free outdoor movie screenings in Washington Square Park, reported The New York Times. The New York-centric musical film series, "Movies on the Square: All Singing! All Dancing! All New York!," will begin on Sept. 8.

• The Department of Labor has made available a mobile app that reports the heat index at worksites. The app utilizes heat index information with the user's location to figure if protective means are needed. Check it out at SAG.

• James Franco, leading contender for Multihyphenate of the Decade, won't be adding Broadway star to his credits yet. Playbill said the "127 Hours" actor is withdrawing from the upcoming Broadway revival of Tennessee Williams' "Sweet Bird of Youth." The production is still not confirmed for the 2011-2012 Broadway season.

• Broadway productions made only $11.6 million last week, contrasting the $20.1 million grossed the previous week. August 27 and 28 performances were shuttered due to Hurricane Irene, resulting in decreased attendance and the subsequent box office drop. Read the story at The New York Times.
