Hunter Parrish to Play Jesus in 'Godspell' Revival

Hunter Parrish Producer Ken Davenport announced today that Hunter Parrish will be playing the role of Jesus in the upcoming Broadway revival of Godspell, Broadwayworld.com reports. Parrish is most popularly known for his portrayal of Silas Botwin on Weeds, which is currently in its seventh season on Showtime. He has also previously starred on Broadway as Melchoir in the Tony Award-winning musical Spring Awakening.

"I am elated to be joining the Godspell family, and honored to be a part of bringing this thrilling classic back to Broadway," Parrish said. "I knew after meeting with the creative team that I was going to be a part of something really exciting. I can't wait to get started."

Being an avid fan of Weeds, I was skeptical about seeing Parrish in his Broadway debut onstage in Spring Awakening, but as it turns out I was pleasantly surprised. He had the musical talent to hold his own and a natural stage presence that is required for live theater. So I, for one, am looking forward to seeing his return to the Broadway stage.

Parrish's other film credits include It's Complicated, 17 Again, RV, and Freedom Writers.

For more updates on Godspell, check out Davenport's blog, appropriately titled "Day By Day," where the producer provides daily updates on the making of the new production of Godspell. This includes updates on casting announcements, the creative team, the production's progress, and even videos from the open call auditions.
