Movie Industry Is Not Recession-Proof

The stock market has recently dropped again causing more financial tumult, and according to Entertainment Weekly, the movie business is not out in the clear. Often thought of as the recession-proof industry because box offices normally rise during economic collapses, this does not hold true for the studios or independent filmmakers.

During a recession, studios and production companies suffer layoffs and refuse to make risky films. Independent movies often have a hard time finding backing during times when investors do not want to gamble their money, and studios definitely do not want to put themselves in jeopardy by buying indie flicks.
