Movie Tickets at New High; Criss To Take on Broadway
• The average movie ticket price has jumped past $8, reported The Wrap. At $8.06, movie tickets have surpassed 2010’s previous high of $8.01 and the most recent average price of $7.97.
• “Glee” actor Darren Criss will be succeeding “Harry Potter” star Daniel Radcliffe as J. Pierrepont Finch in “How to Succeed in Business” come January. Chriss, who found a cult-following as Harry Potter in the YouTube hit “A Very Potter Musical,” will take on the role for a limited three-week engagement. Read the story at Playbill.
• According to the Los Angeles Times, Paramount and DreamWorks are officially split after DreamWorks rejected a last minute attempt by Paramount to extend its distribution agreement. With few options left, DreamWorks might have to release its own productions in the future or strike deals with a mix of smaller distributers.
• A federal court has ordered a preliminary injunction filed by the Motion Picture Association of America against Zediva, a video service that has been exploiting loopholes in copyright laws. According to Cnet, the website billed itself as a DVD rental service in which users “rented” DVDs and DVD players, neither of which left the company. Viewers then “controlled” the DVD players via the Internet.
