Weston Playhouse Flooded; Sony TV on Prime Time

• The Weston Playhouse in Weston, Vermont is flooded with five feet of water because of Hurricane Irene. The theater’s world premiere of “Saint-Ex” was scheduled for last weekend, but was cancelled. Weston will stage a “re-imagined” version starting September 2 after the theater is drained. Check out the story at Playbill.

• There’s a remake of “The Gambler” in the works, but no one told James Toback, the writer of the original. He sent an email to Deadline describing why he’s a little perturbed and how he fought to have his movie made in the first place. Toback also mentions that at the time he tried to have an actor by the name of Bobby De Niro play the lead role.

• The New York Times analyzes Sony’s television department and how this independent studio breaking into prime time this fall with shows like “Pan Am” and “Charlie’s Angels.”
