Hollywood Film Awards Announced
It's time for every obscure outlet to start giving out film awards in prep for Oscar season: several winners of the 15th Annual Holllywood Film Festival and Hollywood Film Awards (got all that?) have been announced. Yeah, I haven't heard of them either--it sounds vaguely like that made-up awards show "The Awards Presentation Ceremony" in the 1983 campfest "The Lonely Lady."
Anyway, back to the announced winners: first up is Michelle Williams for the Hollywood Best Actress Award (ugh what a mouthful) for "My Week With Marilyn," a film that has yet to be released and virtually no one within the industry has even seen yet. I love me some Williams, but this seems a bit premature, no? Even stranger is the "win" for Joseph Gordon-Levitt for the Hollywood Breakthrough Award for "50/50." Um, breakthrough? For a guy who's been a recognizable name since 1996? Gordon-Levitt is fantastic in "50/50" and deserves a real award--Best Actor--not this weird courtesy acknowledgement for his work.
Making a little more sense, other winners include the cast of "The Help" for the Hollywood Ensemble Award; Christopher Plummer for the Hollywood Supporting Actor Award for "Beginners"; "Rango" for the Hollywood Animation Award; Felicity Jones for the New Hollywood Award for "Like Crazy." And apparently in acknowledgement of the 17 films she's had this year, my beloved Jessica Chastain is receiving the Hollywood Breakthrough Actress Award.
More winners to be announced in coming weeks. The Hollywood Awards Gala Ceremony will take place at the Beverly Hilton on Oct. 24, 2011.
