McCarthy's Next Move; Signature Aids Playwrights

Melissa • Melissa McCarthy won an Emmy on Sunday and has received recognition for her supporting role in the film "Bridesmaids." Deadline reported that she just sold a pilot script  to CBS. For those who may not see the merit in learning improv, McCarthy is Groundlings alumna.

• American Ballet Theater principal dancer David Hallberg will be leaving the U.S. for Russia. He will become the first American to join the Bolshoi Ballet of Moscow. Read the story at The New York Times.

• A chamber reading of Oscar-winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black's new play "8" took place on Monday, said  The Hollywood Reporter. The drama is centered on California's overturning of Proposition 8. Notable actors, such as Ellen Barkin and Morgan Freeman, participated. Read the story at

• Signature Theater Company announced five playwrights will be charter members of its Residency Five program. The endeavor guarantees productions of each writer's new plays over the next five years as well as other benefits. Check it out at The New York Times.
