Denzel Washington Honors Fordham With $2 Million

114229537 Denzel Washington, Tony Award and two-time Academy Award-winner,  will donate $2 million in his name toward Fordham University, his alma mater. According to The New York Times, university officials said that the donation will endow Fordham’s first professorship in theater with the goal of attracting a well-known actor, director, playwright, designer and other artists. Actress Phylicia Rashadis, who has won a Tony herself, will be the first to hold the endowed chair.

Washington studied both journalisma and drama while at Fordham. In addition to the professorship donation, he gave a $250,000 endowment for a scholarship, which will also carry his name and be awarded to an undergraduate theater student.
