AFM Attracts Indie Producers, Foreign Investors
The American Film Market. It’s just like it sounds. A market for new film ideas, proprietors and exhibition – even though half the films haven’t even been made or produced yet.
The AFM is mostly for those who tend to shoot film outside the standardized “studio system.” Like a game of chance, independent producers pitch their ideas to exhibitors from other countries in hopes of drumming up enough interest for an investor to possibly fund their project. Some have shown up with all their preliminary artwork, a full screenplay, and treatment. And others…have an idea and perhaps a cast member or two.
According to Los Angeles Times, this year, representatives from more than 35 countries will be in attendance, with Mongolia and Cambodia making their first debuts.
